Operating AM

Nets, frequencies and opportunities for AMARS members and other amplitude modulation enthusiasts to meet on the air.

On the air

RAFARS nets

Robert, GW6GBY has invited members and other AM enthusiasts to join nets, as follows:

AMARS members are invited to participate on the RAFARS twice daily radio nets on 40 and 80m. Although these are SSB nets and only usually run for 30mins (ish), we can swap over to AM for as long as the bands allow, and chat holds up.

80m will be the preferred net to use as 40m is often very cramped/busy, but we can always QSY to near band edges if appropriate.

Daily

RAFARS net times

The timing and frequencies for the RAFARS Nets are:

40m
Daily, based around 7155 kHz
11:00 local time

80m
Daily, based around 3715 kHz
20:00 local time

VMARS

VMARS also run a net on 3615 kHz AM and AMARS members are welcome to join it.

GW6GBY WSPR beacon

To give a good indication of how usable the bands are, Robert Pearce (GW6GBY) runs a WSPR beacon on 40m and sometimes swaps to 80m if asked. The link to use is:

Open the WSPRnet map

You do not need to log in, but you do need to fill in the call-sign G4RAF, select 40m, and use a time period of 10 min (the default), which you fill in on the form below the map.

If no map is displayed, it usually means nothing is received at outlying stations.
